Lindsay Bergquist

Lindsay Bergquist, a ceramic sculptor, was born in 1979 in Wichita, Kansas. After graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2003, she took a break from the art world to start her own family. In 2019, she returned to clay at Greenwich House Pottery and Sculpture Space NYC to reconnect with her creativity outside being a mother. She now lives and works outside of Cleveland, Ohio.

Her “elsewhere” nature as a former student and stumbling mother identity has since thrived in the creative setting, where she captures unorganized thoughts and feelings into a completed form. She works with clay slabs cut into random but familiar shapes that appear as pattern pieces ready to be seamed together. Her process alters and connects these orderly pieces in a responsive and fluid

contact with the material. She brings the unordered or chaos of the day into the studio to release an unrealized connection through clay.

Lindsay’s forms are not just sculptures but expressions of movement and depth of thought. Each piece she creates is a journey, a story unfolding in clay. The forms she makes, whether abstract or representational, are not static objects but dynamic entities, capturing the essence of movement and change. They invite the viewer to explore and interpret, to delve into the depths of their own thoughts and feelings. The user can adjust and display the forms in multiple ways, an extension of the artist’s beginning and tactful journey with the clay.
